Video - What is a Flame?

A short award winning film answers this question in an understandable and enjoyable way.

Are there simple answers to seemingly complex science questions? “The Flame Challenge” proves it is possible.  In this competition scientists had to explain “What is a flame?” in a way 11-year-olds would understand and enjoy.

Out of 822 international contributions including written entries, graphics and videos a 7.30 minute film has been chosen as the best answer. The creator of the winning project is 31 year old US-American Ben Ames who is working on his PhD in quantum optics at the University of Innsbruck.

The clip itself takes us straight to hell where a poor soul is already languishing in the fire. How can this little guy’s misery be eased? It must be torture for him to be surrounded by flames and not to know what they are.  So it is explained to him but see for yourself how.
